In the summer of 2009, through their need to create music, a small handful of musicians came together. In Wainwright, AB they began to combat small-town boredom with their common love. Founding members Jeff Belcher and Mike Dort, along with former member Glen Penney, now base the band in the Edmonton area where through dedication and persistence continue to write, perform and evolve their sound.
All with different musical backgrounds and tastes, the trio writes original material with a passion to connect people through rock'n'roll. Thoughtful lyrics and infectious melodies are The Able Kind's vessel to do so.
With every live experience, handshake and cheers, people are welcomed into The Able Kind fan family. The band currently has 3 EP's and one single with a full length record on the way.
Jeff Dakus - Drums/Percussion
Mike (Mort) Dort - Guitar/Vocals
Mort gives The Able Kind its passion, bringing high energy to the stage with his unique lead guitar style, and raw emotion to his singing and song writing.
As a guitarist, Mort counts AC/DC, Green Day, Rage Against the Machine, the Beatles and System of a Down among his many musical influences. He seeks to push the limits of typical guitar play with licks and notes that are seldom seen, which help give The Able Kind a sound found nowhere else.
As a song writer, Mort is not afraid to touch on controversial subjects such as corruption and hypocrisy, while inspiring peace and kinship in those who listen. “As a band,” he says, “I want to create something unique and not so everyday, while inspiring others with our lyrics, all the while constantly pushing the limits of what we as musicians can do.”
